Lighting Systems & Illumination Control

Lighting is not an accessory in poultry production — it is a core management tool. Photoperiod, light intensity, spectral quality and dimming precision directly determine reproductive performance, feed intake, growth rate and bird welfare across every production system.

Why Lighting Matters More Than Most Producers Realise

Light controls the hormonal system of the bird. It regulates sexual maturity timing, egg production cycles, daily activity patterns and stress response. A poorly specified lighting system does not just waste energy — it actively suppresses production performance throughout the entire flock cycle.

Flicker, uneven lux distribution, incorrect spectral composition and inadequate dimming precision are invisible performance suppressors. Birds cannot communicate discomfort — they simply produce less, consume more feed, and show more aggressive behaviour. The production loss is real. It is measurable. And it is preventable.

Technical Evaluation Criteria

Lux Level & Uniformity

We evaluate lux level distribution across the entire house floor plan, including under multi-tier systems. Shadow zones and hot spots create uneven feeding behaviour, floor egg incidence and social stress. Uniformity ratio is specified as a design requirement, not an afterthought.

Flicker-Free Operation

Birds perceive flicker at frequencies far above human detection threshold. Flickering light causes chronic stress, suppresses feed intake and increases aggressive behaviour. All lighting systems specified by AGRIONIS are 100% flicker-free across the full 0–100% dimming range.

Spectral Quality & UVA

Poultry vision extends into the UVA spectrum. Correct spectral composition improves bird orientation, accelerates sexual maturity in layers and parent stock, supports hormonal regulation and reduces cannibalism and feather pecking in high-density systems.

Dimming Precision & Photoperiod Control

Sunrise and sunset simulation through smooth dimming transitions reduces flock disturbance at light programme changes. Dimming controller precision, programme flexibility and alarm response capability are evaluated as core performance parameters.

IP Rating & Environmental Durability

Poultry house environments combine high ammonia concentrations, dust, humidity and pressure washing. We specify only IP67-rated fixtures for all in-house applications. Housing material, lens coating and connector seal integrity are verified prior to system specification.

Installation & Serviceability

Lighting system installation cost and maintenance accessibility are evaluated as lifecycle cost factors. Plug-and-play wiring systems, pre-wired configurations and modular replacement options reduce installation time and long-term maintenance burden.
