Feed Storage, Transport & Distribution Systems

Feed Loss: The Most Underestimated Cost in Poultry Production
Feed loss occurs at three points: storage (moisture, pest and mould contamination), transport (auger seal failure, spillage at pipe connections) and distribution (pan overfill, feed scatter, incorrect fill height).
A 2–3% feed loss on a 100,000-bird broiler house represents several tonnes of wasted feed per cycle. Pan geometry, fill height control, anti-scatter lips and auger seal integrity are not minor details — they are the difference between a system that performs and one that silently drains margin from every flock.

Feed Storage Silos — 4t to 33t
Silo capacity is selected based on daily feed consumption, delivery frequency and required buffer storage. We specify galvanised steel or fibreglass silos sized correctly to prevent both quality-compromising overstocking and supply disruption from undersized storage.

Feed Transport Systems
Feed transport from silo to house is engineered based on conveying capacity and installation geometry. Seal integrity, drive unit specification and pipe diameter are evaluated to eliminate spillage and feed quality degradation.
Spiral Conveyor
Spring steel flexible spiral for feed transport up to 4.5 t/h. Navigates bends up to 90° without feed separation or quality degradation. Suitable for meal, pellets and crumbles across standard house configurations.
Heavy Duty Auger
Metal auger for high-capacity transport above 4.5 t/h and steep pitches up to 75°. Designed for long conveying distances and demanding operational conditions where spiral capacity is insufficient.
Distribution & Pan Systems
Pan Feeding — Broiler & Breeder
Pan geometry is the primary determinant of feed loss at distribution. Inward-curved pan rims, correct fill height limiters and anti-scatter lips reduce wastage significantly. We evaluate pan design, fill control mechanisms and track configuration for each production type and bird age.
Chain & Trough — Layer Systems
Layer cage feeding systems require consistent feed distribution across the entire cage row length. Chain feeder speed, feed volume per run and trough depth are specified to ensure uniform feed access and minimise competition stress that impacts production uniformity.
Feed Level Monitoring
Radar-based wireless silo fill sensors measure feed level across the entire silo surface. Integration with farm management systems enables automated reorder triggers and consumption reporting per house — eliminating both supply shortages and quality-compromising overstocking.
Feed Weighing Systems
Precision weighing of daily feed intake per house provides accurate FCR calculation. Early identification of intake deviations allows intervention before performance loss becomes measurable at slaughter or packing.
